If it were real, it's a Japanese Trade Dollar, about three million total minted during the 1870's. Big money coin. To the best of my knowledge, they do not have those two characters appearing at the bottom of the circle of dots - that circle is unbroken on the real issue.

We'd need a translator, but I wouldn't be surprised if those two characters at the bottom of the circle identify it as an "emulation" coin, the equivalent of "COPY." I have no idea.

This photo should be a real one, and the bottom photo is a fake.

Have you put a magnet to it yet?

If a coin is a counterfeit of a very rare coin, they could use silver, and a magnet won't help.

I agree, but it is an easy quick test.

This one is probably better-served in the World section, where people with more specific knowledge hang out. @GDJMSP, would you agree?

Ehhh - yes, no, maybe ?

Sometimes a question about a coin should be posted in a specific section and other times it's not really that big of a deal. Members of the forum typically tend to look at all or almost all sections of the forum. And then there's those who don't look at posts by section at all, instead they look at whatever they find under New Post or Recent Post. And when you use those it doesn't matter what section a post was made in, it's going to be seen anyway.

My rule of thumb is this, I usually don't move posts around unless they are definitely posted in the wrong section, and that really doesn't happen too much. Or, when the OP asks me to move it to a different section. Other than that I tend to leave them alone.
