A new one to complete a set of 1936 dated Walking Liberty Half Dollars. This one is an MS65 of San Francisco origin. The Denver one for 1936 is also an MS65, and the mother mint one is an MS66.
For a number of years I have been working on assembling a denomination suite of US patterns. I never thought that I would be able to find the Half Cent since there are only two varieties, J-155 and J-177. Both of them are experimental patterns trying out different alloys of copper. There is only one example known of J-155 and an estimated 75-100 known of J-177. The J-177 was minted with two different alloys. One mixture was 88% copper 12% nickel and the other is 90% copper 10% nickel. They are also known in mint state or proof formats. I do not know why that is and perhaps someone on CT knows or could point me in the right direction for researching that question. I know the photo quality isn't the best but it's what NGC had to offer. Needless to say this will be on lay-a-way for a while, but I am really psyched to be its new custodian. All that is left to complete the suite is the twenty cent pattern. If you would like to learn more about patterns I highly recommend the following website: uspatterns.com
I "stole" this from a fellow CT member. I'm not going to name him, but if any of y'all see @Randy Abercrombie crying, or just looking like someone took a lick off his ice cream cone, how about patting him on the back and tell him, "it'll be alright, better days are coming"! Thanks so much Randy. Praying for Peace & Blessings for you and your family, Kenneth My pictures don't do it justice, but I was in a hurry!
It's been a minute since i bought (for fairly obvious reasons lol), but I'm not letting this one slip. Next purchase is either going to be another braided hair (i've grown fond of them), a trime which i dont have yet, or a Booby Head for the lol
I have a small suite of low mintage coins that still look good after working for a living. This is my latest addition. VG-8 with a green bean.
Outstanding! Paul Battaglia's Pattern collection was built on the same equality of love and dedication. You are collecting with tenacity outside the box, for sure. I'm thinking RWB might be able to assist with the alloy question. Wonderful addition to your pursuit. "You are gonna make Millions, Jerry, Millions, I tell ya...." (courtesy Seinfeld)
Thank you Charley for your kind words. I do have access to an XRF machine but I do not know if I can get a reading through the slab. I'll test it when I have the coin in hand.
