Hello everyone, Something new to show from my collection. The 1997 Botanic Gardens Silver Dollar was issued for the National Botanic Garden in Washington, DC. Based on the inscriptions the occasion was for the 165th anniversary, which took place two years prior in 1995. Collectors took focus on the 1997 Botanic Gardens Coinage and Currency Set, which included a matte finish 1997-P Jefferson Nickel. Because only 25,000 of the sets were sold, this nickel enjoys a level of scarcity that has supported high prices. The commemorative offering had a maximum authorized mintage of 50,000 coins across all options. Final combined sales fell below the half-way mark. Specs Share any of your commemorative coins
I hate the reverse of the Botanic Garden commemorative silver dollar. The building looks like a trollycar, which is usual quality for government art. I was one of those who had my order rejected for the Currency set. It left a bad taste in my mouth, and I didn't think much of the dollar because of it. You can say "sour grapes."
That's because it's depicting a Conservatory Garden. Most of them look that way! The top is mostly glass windows to let in plenty of sunlight. This is the Bronx Botanical Garden Conservatory Building.. And here is the one on the coin. In Washington DC Back of the building.. Looks like a trolly
No. The artwork on the reverse of the coin has no depth of field and is boring as the devil. They could have done better. For example, the reverse of the Jefferson Nickel, which is also a "Trollycar." The reverse that Felix Schlag designed.
