Found this one in pocket change the other day! All opinions are welcome. I was going to describe this coin, but I thought that the community would do a better job. To use something we haven't talked about in a while Strike, Luster, Eye appeal and Contact.
A term that has not been used for a while on here but had a nice run! My opinions on the cent: Strike: about average for the series; nothing too special Luster: looks to be strong Eye Appeal: Average; the first photo makes it look like there is some haze but I don't see it on the second photo Contact: there are hits but it's not too bad given you found it in circulation
The first images show a coin with significant circulation that has been rubbed on a sidewalk. The second images are some other coin.
It's all about the lighting. The first image is how a dealer sees it when buying. The second image how the dealer sees it when selling.
Maybe we should start a thread where we all post two pictures of a coin in our collection. The first photo we make the coin look as good as possible (glare out scratches, make the toning stand out more, etc...), the other as ugly as we can.
That would be interesting! Somewhat similar thread here: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/i-gambled-on-ebay-and-i-liked-it.222155/
Amazing how different the sets of photos are. Auction Kings would hire you in a nanosecond to photograph their junk.
The sad thing is that coin, will be preserved, till it's appreciated. Of, course I like photo'ng odd coins. It's a circ find. My worst enemy's are good looking Lincolns, I can't get the in hand look. I will try another. Ps those heavy marks in the field are clash marks and or die gouges. Most of what @KBBPLL called as road rash is mis attributed.
Believe it or not, this is the same coin, depending upon the angle of the light source for the photo or the viewer. NGC graded this piece PR-66. Rather blah An attractive "toner."
Here is the problem @johnmilton If I was to have posted a classic coin the rude comment above that derailed the thread wouldn't have happened. But because it is a modern it gets trashed. Ps Nice looking Seated Quarter you posted. I could have deceived everyone and just posted glamour shots, but what fun is that.
