I've had this nickel for years. I remember finding it and asking either Mr. Wiles or Mr. Wexler if I should send it to them for attribution. I remember them referring me to Mr. Ribar (who handles all the Jefferson Nickel variety attribution) and not hearing back, so I just kind of 2x2'ed it and put it in a storage box.

Well, I've finally dug it out again, and I'd like to ask what you think it might be. Im seeing a distinct and raised circle poking out from the right side of the T of MONTICELLO.

    Here is the entire coin:

And here is a closeup of the T/O:

Not a recognized variety to my knowledge. Just a ding on the die next to the T.

You could have a Discovery coin there.. call it the T Cup Handle variety ;)

It's either a die gouge or a strikethrough of something hard enough to dent the die. Does that meet the definition of "variety?"

I would say it does, technically, since a lot of varieties are identified by die cracks and such.

True; die cracks can nail down a specific die pair (which is a prerequisite for my definition of "variety"). If it's a strikethrough - the more likely answer, with just these images - I'm less inclined to offer the appellation.
