Loose change! Millions of dimes spill onto Texas highway after semitruck crash

A crash Tuesday morning (April 29 2025) left millions of dimes scattered across the highway in Texas' Wise County and closed down southbound lanes of U.S. 287 for most of the day.

A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper told the Wise County Messenger there were 8 million dimes on the truck.

Street sweepers were also used to collect the shiny new dimes on the road.

The road will remain closed as coin collection continues; there's no estimate when the road will reopen.

So weird. I love the picture of the heavy set law man holding his hand on top of his head and staring at a pile of dimes. James

 

It would have been a more enjoyable story with pictures and video if it had happened in NYC.

 

Can you imagine the damage to those dimes by the sweeper. Oh well, they can be sold as error coins, instead of Sleepers they can be called Sweepers!

 

Using Vactors to suck up the dimes and gunk. Why not?

 

I'm sure NGC and PCGS already have their "TRUCKWRECK EFFECT" labels drafted and ready to go.
