That is a strong sigh that this a bogus auction. You might expect to pay your maximum bid now and then, but not 100% of the time.

Yep. This was a mildly expensive lesson.

Just don’t pay them at all. And never bid with them again.

Agreed. If you haven't paid them, don't. I wouldn't have bought that 20c based on those images anyway.

This is the kind of company that will enforce their all encompassing contract including recovery of lawyers fees. They are like organized crime - F@#k you, pay me. I say go through with it, hope you get all the coins you paid for and don't do business with them again.

If the OP has evidence that every single coin was bid up to exactly his max bid, it wouldn't be wise for them to pursue it. They can just relist them and sucker someone else.

Perhaps, but what would be his proof? The person running up the bid is the person running the auction. They sucker everybody.

If you don’t do anything until you hear from them it’s on them.

    You answered your question.
It's like online gambling where everyone else at the table can see your cards.

Blame it on the cat and let them try to collect.
I'm sure the judge will see through their shady business practices.

Just wanted to follow up and put some closure on this thread. All said and done, I did receive my coins. I know now why all their photos are overexposed. It hides the cleaning. Three of these are obviously cleaned and I don’t need a magnifier to see that they are cleaned…. But I did get my coins and here’s my synopsis:
    • All seven coins bid up to my max bid. I think the underlying message is obvious.
    • My card was charged two days before I ever had an invoice and that disturbed me.
    • Four emails to them since the close of the bid. I have received no response.
    • Fuzzy photography hides the imperfections.
Long and short is that this will be my one and only transaction with these folks. Unlike many on the BBB report, I did receive my goods, though all at max bid and several with obvious problems. Anyway, just wanted to tie up the loose ends. I would not recommend them. Not entirely shady but not clean as a whistle either.

Sorry Randy I'd have to strongly disagree.
    ENTIRELY SHADY
and you should do a charge back on your credit card.
The coins are definitely Misrepresented and that should be good enough for you to return them.
ADD IN that the company somehow ran you up to your max bid with some sort of SHILL BIDDING and that in itself should be criminal.
Can you get a copy or screenshot of the bider list and amounts?

Damn sorry to hear about this Randy! :( I've done business with a company on ebay with the same name, never had a problem. May be the same company, I have no idea.

Did you ever figure out who the actual seller was and chase down their terms & conditions?

Are you sure? GSA is both an auctioneer and a seller on their own account. GSA's T&C refer you to the seller's terms.

I know of a couple of European auctions that don't do proxy bidding. Your bid is your bid.

Well… My invoice is a GSA invoice. I participated in a local auction a time or two and won a few pieces. As a result I get boatloads of auction emails and I typically just delete them. My wife was recovering from surgery so I had a little time on my hands and a glitzy GSA email came in which led to me bidding on twenty coins. But yeah my bids went thru the GSA website….. Won’t happen again!
