Hey everyone, Just picked up a 1902 2 pence from a LCS today, and as I was looking at it noticed that there is a very clear 9/9 overdate (or I suppose it could be a 9/8, I'll have to take a closer look when I get home.) I'm curious if anyone knows of a recognized variety like this. EDIT: here are some images of the entire coin, plus a closeup of the 19 in the date. As usual, thanks!
Is the doubling apparent above the loop of the 9? There is an "adjusted" 9 I've seen before, but that one appears to be more of a recut numeral than an overdate.
It is a 9/9. I'll bet the engraver picked up a large 9 punch by mistake and then corrected his error.
