has anyone seen this error? it has a die break running all the way through the united states of america and a spike between and below we and trust. ive looked through the vam website and many others and cant find anything about it
Nice close-up image! The marks in the photo and the mark under IN GOD is the result of clashed dies. It is very comon with Morgan dollars. Your image shows a double clash. They do not assign unique VAM designations to clashed dies unless a letter was transferred. Do you have a full image of your coin? There are several 87-P VAMs with clashed die letter transfers. You need to check in front of Liberty's neck (for parts of IN G), in the hairvee over the date to the right (for TRUST), under the eagle's tail feathers (for E in LIBERTY), and over the D in GOD (for the designer's initial M). There's a nice clashed overlay on the VAMworld site (under FAQ). Having trouble getting there right now.
