Multiple AR Thalers still way cheaper then Dukat counterparts. Do you have any AR 10 Thalers? Those are fantastic/size of AV 100 Dukaten.
On the "Dukaten Front" my best is a Papal States/ Bologna AV 10 Zecchini 1787 =10 D. Mostly everything over 2 D is $$$. However the 10-100 are $$$$$$$$ I had a chance of winning a Salzburg 12 D in 2000/ it sold for 14K in Euros/ a really good buy then. My biggest problem/ I live in Canada (my parents brought me over from Germany when I was six) So/ I have to exchange Canuck Bucks into US$-1.42 EURO=1.54 UK Pds= 1.72 Thus I am royall screwed Had my parents stayed in Germany my $$$$ woul allow me to buy way more nice coins. My first update to this thread in quite a while. Yesterday, 4/25/2025, I went to CSNS in Chicago (Shamburg). My intention was to come home with this coin. Recently I have been able to make some nice sales and my real job has been cooperating. AR Multiple Taler (equivalent to four Taler) Celebrating his (August II) 88th birthday. Dated 10 April 1666 HS. Obverse: Draped and armored bust facing slightly right, wearing skullcap, being crowned by Justitia, standing right, holding sword and scales, and crowned with a wreath by Victory, standing left, holding palm frond Reverse: Ornately crested helmet facing; all within wreath decorated with fourteen crowned coats-of-arms; mark of value ‘4’ punched below; wreathed border References: Welter 781A; Davenport LS84 D.84; KM 488. Composition: Silver Weight 115.69 g Diameter: 86 mm A lot of people consider the below coin a companion piece. Later in the same year August II died and a "Death Thaler" was produced in his honor. There was a multiple version of this as well but mine is a just a Thaler
Congratulations on your purchase. You're in the big leagues with that purchase. I've held a 3 Thaler but never a 4 Thaler. What's your next move besides sitting on the front porch admiring this beautiful piece and enjoying some ice cold tea?
That's funny. I have a glass of iced tea next to me. I can't imagine ever owning anything larger than a 4 Thaler. They get way to high for my budget. The same seller has a Wildman 3 Thaler that is stunning. They want $28K for that one. This one was cheap in comparison.
That's a whopper! I think I saw a multiple version of the Death thaler for sale at Baldwins earlier this year or late last year. I really love that reverse with all the shields and such. Just very pleasing design wise for my tastes. The obverse figures with the wreaths reminds me of several ancient coins!
