So I recently acquired a complete album of IHCs and the 1877 is problematic due to some verdigris on both the obverse and reverse. I’m curious if there was any hope to bring this one back to a more visibly pleasing state. I’m not looking for a straight graded coin but the details remaining other than the corrosion are very nice. I’ve used VerdiCare in the past but can’t seem to find my little bottle.
It appears to be a partial 7 over? in my opinion. I agree with @Pickin and Grinin but it's your decision, good luck.
No, there is not much you can do for it. This is not the worst 1877 cent I have seen. I met a guy who found one with a metal detector. He had not been careful with his shovel. He sliced a big gash in it about half way across it. He couldn't get $20 for it. It was real, but totally messed up.
Insider does some great work. I took him a group of Seated Dimes and Half Dimes that I thought were a complete loss. They were really nasty. They came back looking 100% better. Still details coins but they are at auction right now and bringing nice bids. I'll post some before and after images after the auctions end.
