I'm debating on whether to get this toned 1909 Wheat Cent or not. Price is 26 bucks. I like the toning but I wonder what you guys think. Thanks for your opinions in advance!

Weird paw print on the reverse under 'America'.......toning appears suspect (maybe to hide something) but that's just my humble schlep opinion. Others more knowledgeable will chime in shortly. :)

It's a pretty coin but I'm not sure about the toning. Do you have any more images?

I like it, but, the finger print is a distraction to me.

Market acceptable toning, agree on the fingerprints, I avoid coins with those.

I like the look of the front, the finger print, not so much...

I like it. It looks like it's got a little touch of wear atop the collar. Unless it grades MS, that price is a little out of line.

The fingerprint would kill that one for me. The FBI could run it through its database.

Lol. But I don't mind it. Without it it's not that much improvement to that side of the coin, anyway, and it blends in a little better than most, courtesy of the toning, I think.

Do finger prints run the same way as die polish lines? devil.gif

No, definitely. It's known they run the other way.

I like it, the fingerprint is subtle enough with the toning it doesn't bother me too much

I'm not sure that is a fingerprint.

I thought the same thing. I thought it might be from a fabric possible too

Those lines are really straight on the lower part of the reverse.

Then there is your answer. If you like it and 26 isn't too much to spend on a coin, then go for it. At worst you overpay by $10-$15; at best you get a nice toned coin that you'll enjoy.

    SapphireSilver I vote for coins!

I'm absolutely no expert. In fact I am a neophyte. But the lines on the reverse show no swirl as would be seen on a fingerprint. They are almost parallel inferiorally, and then ever so slightly flare outward bilaterally especially on the right side of the word "cent", ending with generalized mottling superiorally. It's almost as if this coin got toned on something ribbed.
