Hi everyone, I hope all is well. This dime on the obverse left side rim looks like a gear/teeth mark opening as if it was not properly finished. So is it just me that the reverse side looks a bit putty as if it was struck again or they were all made to look that way that year? Your opinion is greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a great day!
Yes. It's a minor error called a Collar Clash. It's a common issue on many reeded coins. The appearance on the rim is caused by a slight Misaligned Die Strike. Also a minor and common issue.
