I won't say this is one of my cooler finds until I know what it is. interesting to say the least. there is no damage to the side of the coin. I tried getting a picture but came out bad.

I don't know much about defective dies, but that's what it looks like to me. Could you upload a picture of the whole coin?

Some will say it's a Cud.
I will say it's some kind of Finning from a Finned Rim caused by a high pressure strike and the raised metal just folded over that area. Simple .

I'm inclined to agree. The second pic (16-22) is the best evidence.

I run into these quite often. By your pics I would have to agree with Pattyman about a folded over rim burr. Or what's others like to call fin. These I found you have to be extremely observant with. By your pics I cannot tell if there is underlying metal under the bur. As in the example I'm going to show you. burr-5.jpg Here is a rim burr. I'll have to look for that other photo which breaks it down in a better perspective. Right now with the pics you're providing I'm going to have to say burr.:blackalien:

    No..
That's a False Double Rim usually associated with a Misaligned Die Strike

Well it did get down to 52° here in South Florida.HAAAAAAAA:happy::blackalien:PS. Has anybody heard about John's condition if he's improving or what. All I know is I still have five coins waiting for him at his PO Box. That has not been picked up yet. And it's been well over a month.

Question. Can you show a pic of the RiM. Is it flat. Here's one of my 93 cent. Under many hours of extensive research 1993p4.jpg It was determined that this 93 was a finned rim.:cigar::blackalien:

as previously stated it is hard for me to get a pic of the edge. it is a normal reeded edge. nothing out of the ordinary.

From my knowledge, Finned Rims usually occur only on coins smaller than a Quarter. I have examples on Nickels and Cents.

Can't change who I am. But I have to point this fact out to you. Doesn't this previous statement.

My bag must've misunderstood your quote. From my knowledge, Finned Rims usually occur only on coins smaller than a Quarter. That I can agree on. But so far out of many thousands of quarters never found a finned one. Only rim burrs and burrs covering cuds.:blackalien:

I did hear back from him recently on some coins I sent about two months back. I'm not sure how he is, but it seems like he is starting to process through his coins again. I wish him the best.
