Happy new year everybody! Can any of the experts help me with the exact identification of this coin? Could this be overstruck on a (Hadrianic or so) Sestertius (looks rather big and yellowish to me)? And does the style look official or barbarized? IMP C M CASS LAT POSTVMVS AVG / PM TR P COS II (or III ?) PP S C Radiate, draped (and cuirassed?) bust right / Postumus (?) standing left, holding globe and spear Double Sestertius, Trier 261 (or 262 ?) 32 mm / 20,5 gr RIC Vii 106 (or 113 ?), C 68 (or 262 ?), Sear 11052 (or 11054 ?), Bastien 62-63 (or 124 ?), ERIC 348, 387 or 390
The coin looks perfectly normal to me. Many of these were overstruck on earlier coins but I am not seeing a sign on this one. Many of these are really crudely struck and found in poor condition. I'd call this one a keeper. Sure we would like more legends but perfect ones are not common. This is a different type but you can see Antoninus Pius under there: My example of your type has more legends but serious problems that make it a worse coin. We can't have everything.
I'm with Doug. Here's mine, though it's a different type: Postumus, AD 260-269 AE “Double" Sestertius, 33mm, 24.9g, 12h; Colonia Agrippinensis or Treveri mint. Obv.: IMP C M CASS LAT POSTVMVS P F AVG; Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev.: LAETITIA AVG (AVG in exergue); Galley left, four rowers and steersman The bust of this one with the battered galley sold me on this one.
