Hello all. As the title says, it's "Twenty-Cent Tuesday". Post yours please.
Therefore, I don't currently own one.
If I did own one, it probably would be a 1875Sbecause it's the most affordable.

About the Twenty Cent Piece: I've told this many times so you may be tired of it. There was an old vegetable vendor that pushed a handcart down the alleys in our neighborhood. He sold produce out of his garden. One day mom gave me a Fifty Cent Piece and asked me to go out to him and buy something. Mom said it would be Twenty-Five Cents. I gave him the half dollar and he gave me a Twenty Cent Piece. They were almost the same size as a quarter and only in use for a few years in the 1870’s for this same reason – confusion. Now, technically, the vendor gained Five Cents and mom lost Five Cents. As I thought, when I told mom about the mix-up, I was told to put it in my coin collection.

My youngest son now has the coin.

I had a raw 1875-S for many years and sold it when I decided I wanted to collect slabbed coins. I added this one to my registry type set not too long ago. My first Carson City coin. PCGS F15

 

I was fascinated by the Twenty Cent Piece when I was high school. I took the collection as far as I could with the four coins which were issued for general circulation. As an adult I have completed the set with all of the Proofs and Mint State pieces, except, of course the 1876-CC. I have paid way too much them, especially it 1877, which was heavily promoted some years ago. I fell into the trap.

I have seen a number of 1876-CC coins. The worst one had EF sharpness with ugly toning. It made the rounds of many of the major auctions in the early 1980s and went unsold. The best one I’ve seen was an MS-66 holder. The asking price was $575,000 which was well beyond my limits.

Here is my best Twenty Cent Piece. It is graded MS-65.
