Sometimes you see something that is just so cool you have to have it. This is one of those. Probably overpaid for it, and most likely can't sell it, but didn't care at the time. Here are my conjoined non-identical twins: Two Alexandrian AR Tetradrachms stuck together. The left one is Hadrian with the Alexandria reverse, the right one is Nero with boat under sail reverse. I did put some pressure to see if they would break free but it ain't happening and I really don't want to damage them. Here's a pic of the center: I guess my question is should I leave them as they are or try to break them apart, and if the latter how would I even do this? I am leaning towards leaving them as they are but would like to know what the cointalk folks think.
I would leave them because I find it fascinating that they got stuck together in whatever hoard they were in. I have three pairs of fused coins and I plan to leave them all fused. (No pictures right now of two of them). El Cazador 8 Reales, stack of four fused together. I would say your coins are worth more as a joined pair.
Easy question dude, leave as is. That is so cool. You separate them and you end up ruining the connection between these coins. I find it fascinating that coins 60+ years appart found themselves in the same hoard. It shows Romans tended to circulate their coins for a long time.
Too bad we didn't end up meeting each other Brian, would have been cool to really know the person behind the name. Maybe another year perhaps Anyways, I'd keep them together as well. If I were into these kinds of coins I'd probably be more interested in buying them stuck than if they were separated.
So very dangerous to remove conjoined twins.......I'd leave 'em be, and not to worry about selling them.........they're in your collection now. They're part of your family. Both love and enjoy them, and forget that you may have payed a tad too much. You saw something in the offering......something that beaconed you to purchase them. Collecting in the purest form.
neat! yeah man, leave them as it is. i've had a couple of chinese coins joined i've separated, once it came out just fine....but not the other time. the second time there was an area of bare corroded area left where the coins were separated....i could see that being the case with you coins as well!
Hey VK: I looked for a tag with your first name on it but didn't see any. I do think we were there at the same time for a little while. Maybe the ANA in Orlando this March or the summer FUN. I think next year's January FUN show is in Tampa (could be wrong though).
A question I always try to ask myself is: What are the chances I will a similar coin(s) again? I think you should leave them together.
It's too bad that Hadrian wasn't around before 79AD. Then, you could have claimed that they were discovered in the ruins of Pompeii. J/K! Chris
I put "cointalk.com" next to my name but my nametag ended up looking wordy so that probably didn't help you find my name I tried looking for your face (Yahoo Mail once showed me a small photo of who I assumed to be you when I hovered over your name - I'm not a stalker lol) but had no luck. I was there Thursday from opening to about 2. I'll wait until I am making a good amount of money before I consider traveling far for a coin show, so for now any show outside my general area (like Tampa, Orlando) is most likely out of the question. I'm sure we will meet up at a show someday, though.
