When I get change I keep it in my hand until I can go thru it. I throw the nice ones in the crease of the empty passenger seat and throw the rest into the ashtray, (change only). I missed this one. The luster is incredible.
When I’m out and about if I get change it all goes in my left front pocket until I can check it. Spending change is in my right front pocket. It’s good we don’t spend it until it’s been looked at.
I have a terrible habit of stacking coins from the days change, until it makes a mess on my kitchen table. Here is the rest of the ashtray. I was looking for a 75' Lincoln that I got the other day. There might be some fun ones in this batch. My desk isn't any better.
I rarely use currency anymore, I accumulate points on my CC charge that go directly into my credit union's savings account and I pay one monthly bill to settle. A long time ago, I had a 5 gallon water bottle full of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Some of the change in it was so nasty you really needed nitrile gloves to handle it. Before my credit union took away their change counter free for members, I took that jug up there and deposited into their counter. I think I was there for an hour feeding it.
If they do, then I don't feel so much like a hoarder. My problem is I get side tracked. And then the stack just keeps getting added to.
You've been sucked into that feel-good scheme of being seduced by points. To each their own but you are missing out. A few months ago I was given a 1941 quarter as change from a self-checkout at a grocery store, a find I wouldn't have had if I had used a CC. Then on Thursday this week I went into a bank to withdraw $25 and spotted both a 1957 quarter and a gold-plated 1999 Delaware quarter in the teller's tray and was able to buy them. These are finds I wouldn't have had if I didn't make it a point to go inside and get some cash.
I use my card on anything I can deduct on taxes. It keeps it all together for the fun at the end of the year. Last year my points bought me a laptop and a pressure washer. This year I almost have enough points to replace my PC. I use cash for lunch, the bar, tips and small stuff. I have not found anything of much value in change in many years.
