This is a piece I'm looking to purchase and wanted to get some other opinions on grade and potential value. It shows some pretty nice luster but due to some marks on the fields I wasn't sure if I should be concerned about a prior cleaning or dipping. I'm still learning how to spot issues like that so any opinions are appreciated. Thanks! Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Thanks, that is what I was thinking as well. Do you think the cleaning severly affects the overall value? Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
I believe this to be a FS-3S-1854-301, repunched date 1854/5 the die markers line up. In xf - $125-140.
Thanks, didn't realize this could be a RPD so I'll have to research a little more. Even with the possibility of a details grade would you say $125- $140 is a fair value? Just want to make sure I'm not spending more than I should. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
I don't have any real trust that those images are presenting the surface preservation of the coin accurately. No way of telling if you're getting a cleaned coin or not. FS-301 is the most prominent overdate in the entire series, characterized by major repunching of the 8 and 5 to the west. They should be clearly visible in these images. The 4 is also repunched, but not easily visible in some examples. The majority also have radial die cracks at the O in OF and M in AMERICA, as shown below.
