Hello all, I'm sorta out of my element when engaging in most Numismatics other than Mint Errors lol, Is this spotting from 7 o'clock to 9 o'clock area Carbon or Red turning Brown oxidation? It's more pronounced with TrueView. TrueView: In PCGS Holder: Thank you!
IMO, it could be carbon, or even a fingerprint. It is hard to say what caused the dark tones in that area. Maybe something was previously removed from the surface before encapsulation.
Indian head cents are notorious for having micro spotting. They are tiny carbon spots and what causes them isn't important. These are coins that are made of a reactive metal and spots and toning are just natural. i don't think your coin looks that bad but that is just my opinion. James
Thank you for the help so far everyone! Sorry for the lack of info on the coin, I'm interested in purchasing it so rather not have any conflicts lol. It's PCGS MS66+RD btw.
