I was gifted this set somewhere around 1989 +/- a year. Never really looked at it too too closely until today. Just sharing some overall pics of it to see what thoughts anyone might have. I could certainly upgrade several pieces to better grades with items from my regular stash, e.g. the IHC, the typical buffalo, the war nickel, the 39D WL half dollar. But overall it looks pretty nice. I like the 1909 vdb, the V nickel, the ‘13 buffalo, barber dime quarter and half. FYI, the nickel is not a rotated reverse, just somehow turned 180 deg between pics.
Thanks! A shame about the finger prints on the ‘60 proof set dime, but just the fact of being photographed with the reflection of my red coffee can make it look worse than it really is.
Never checked that out until now...looks like normal relief to me. But the lettering does not look like the typical blurry peace dollar letters. Usacoinbook.com has a good side-to-side comparison of high and normal, but it is using images of matte proof specimens. Anything in particular you are seeing to raise the question you asked?
No, just the obverse seems very well defined. Just kind of jumps out to me. Looks like it has depth to it. That would be cool if it was a high relief, wouldn't it?

Looks like a nice short set. The Peace is common. The 1913 Buffalo nickel type 1 refers to ground beneath the buffalo where it says "Five Cents" As a kid, before the internet, I never understood what raised ground meant. It's laughable now but I always tried to see how the mound was higher than a regular one. I was looking at the Y axis on the coin as up down, not realizing it's the Z axis, coming out of the coin towards you. I eventually figured it out. That's the difference between the Type 1s and 2s. They decided the five cents would wear off in circulation too fast so they recessed the ground back into the coin so the wording would be protected on the rest of them. This created six different varieties the first year in 1913 between the P,D, and S, which then proceeded as the type 2 recessed ones from then after. The 1913 is fairly common with the mint marked ones being more scarce and pricier. Some cool toning on the dimes.
