Here’s our answer on the registry set question. When I tried to enter the Albany commemorative: I don’t intend to part with these coins. I would think that the more these coins make their way into the marketplace, the more likely they’ll add them as eligible.
I didn’t even look for that as I don’t intend to part with either one of them. The boy can look for the “instant offer” after I leave this earth.
Well my thoughts are this I bought two coins $800 and got lucky got a $280 dollar coin if there's no big $ revel this unopened coin could be a good one or a bounty coin maybe good for both of us? I'm pretty sure Buffalo, Weasel and I will be around for next issue!! We hate $ and the ride is like cocaine I used 25 years ago! Lost tons no coins! Thanks guys equals the derby!
Somewhat like marrying a mail order or internet bride or husband IMO. I can not think that the Big guys don't know what they are offering as I do not believe they will consider getting less than expected. But I wish Everybody is happy/success, Jim
Between the ski trips you and kid took and the casino and now he revels a red core how much sweeter could it be? Life is Good!
Yes.. it is/was a gamble... we all knew that going in. if you look at the results, none of us did poorly and I think even if we overpaid a bit for the coins we got, we more then made up for it in the enjoyment of the gamble Without a doubt if I have the money when the next set is released (funbox i believe is the next with mint errors and purple cores but at this point it's just rumors lol) I know I will try again as I honestly think i got my money's worth on the deal.
You haven't seen people flipping "unopened Mint packages" on eBay to people gambling on getting 70s? Sure, people could weigh their boxes and sell on the ones that appear undesirable. More likely, though, they'd add the weight as a teaser -- "hey, at this weight, it might be that proof 1906 quarter with a redemption certificate for the rest of the proof set!" And, yeah, the psychology of this seems not to reach me, either. Although I have to admit the discussion on this thread does make it seem at least a little appealing, and that's a significant shift.
I'm glad that everyone came out pretty well on their respective boxes. You fared much better than the folks on youtube.
You could not have said it better! Life IS good!! My wife doesn’t often get into my coin activities, but today even she had fun with it. That was an extra sweet bonus.
The Vaultbox NGCx 10 point grading scale coins DO go in to the registry now. I was going to have the purple core IHC I got re-graded so I could put it in my registry type set, but now I don't have to!
Not all are NGCX (10point) graded.. Series 9 specificaly was all straight NGC/Sheldon scale grading and those do go into type sets . but every series is different but you get to see the entire inventory offered before you buy.. so no surprises
I think the Vaultbox marketing scheme is just what I said, a marketing scheme. Why try and invent the wheel of the Sheldon grading scale? I will NEVER buy a coin in one of those holders, no matter how nice the coin is. It is utterly ridiculous.
It looks like a lottery to me. Yea, somebody will, or might get a $50 gold slug, but most people will get skinned. These guys are running a for profit operation. It’s not a charity. Given the way they grade $50 gold pieces these days, the winner might not have a “Power Ball windfall.” The graders seem to forget that edge bumps lower the grade.
