Has anyone had experience with CGA-they claim to the oldest currency grading/authentication service dating back to about 1990? They are currently running a nice special of $10 a note, 10 note minimum. That is not a deal if the notes are not accepted by buyers, or require a big drop in price to make them marketable. Thanks...I really love this site and the expertise that is shared by the participants.
The top 2 are PCGS and PMG, so this company would be like ICG in relation to coins. (I think) You should have probably posted this in the paper money forum , those guys know their stuff. Almost as knowledgeable as us coin guys
Well it's owned by the same clowns behind NTC slabbing. Which is loving referred to as "there might be an MS67 out there, but not this coin" http://www.cganotes.com/about.php
They are I believe the oldest currency grader still operating and they date back to maybe the late 90's. Yep the link says 1998. (The first currency grading service was Hallmark, not related to any of the three coin grading firms by that name, and they were active back in the mid 70's.) At one time they were about the only game in town but once they got competition their reputation began dropping.
Just remember that PCGS Currency is a different company from PCGS (coins)... from the fine print at the bottom of the web page: "Professional Currency Grading Service® PCGS Currency℠ is a trademark of Collectors Universe, Inc. The use of this trademark is permitted by a license agreement with Collectors Universe, Inc., and Collectors Universe, Inc. is not affiliated with or responsible for any actions of the licensee under that agreement."
CGA note with the diamond are the best note on the market as of today , if you can’t see it means you are ignorant, all this need to end and let this honest man do what he loves to do in peace ,I will continue buying CGA notes from (...) with pleasure . (Edited - Language)
The ICG comparison wouldn't be too far off the mark except for the fact that ICG is recognized by EBay but CGA is not, thus hurting resale options. The newer holders with a star on the label are from after the company changed ownership and are supposed to be more accurately graded, but are still perceived to be a step below PCGS and PMG. I would stay away.
Good info, i hope this the OP dwells down 2 the depths of CT again someday. We need all the hillbillies we can get 'round here. Its guud for the hobby !! Imhho
