A coin of Caracalla or Geta or Elagabalus?

Discussion in 'Ancient Coins' started by Caerhun Roman Fort, Apr 10, 2025.

  1. I've just bought this coin but the central hole indicates it's a provincial?
I have many Sear books but nothing regarding provincials.
Would you guys regard it as Severan?
    Thanks

To my eyes, the portrait looks like Elagabalus.

Greek writing - definitely provincial, probably eastern Europe - I used to be good at these when we had a flood of similar types about 20 years ago - I agree it looks like Elagabalus - never mind as noted above it is Marcianopolis

  7. Thank you very much indeed you saved me lots of time there, it's not in my Sear book so I'd have blundered on for ages, maybe it a this or a that and probably neither - excellent thanks.
