    Never seen a mint mark this low, note the relative height compared to the 9. Anything here? Or is this common?

    the first pic is the obverse, then reverse, then a zoomed in picture of the MM, then two other 1983-D close ups of their MM to show the differences.

    The other day I was helping my wife stamp 925 on some authentic silver rings she is selling. I couldn't get the stamp to land in the same spot at times. Same thing happened at the US Mint when the Mint employee was stamping the Mint Mark into the Die. Not always on the spot it should be found.

    Have you looked at the PCGS gallery? There's one that matches yours pretty closely (third one down). https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1983-d-50c/images/6744
    I'm not going to vote "quit wasting our time", that would be rude. It's interesting to see the variety of MM placements, but that's typical until the MM was put on the master.
