Just picked up this nice flying eagle and was wondering if anyone could help with a snow variety attributions. There is doubling on “ERICA” but I don’t see any tell tale die clashing. thanks in advance!

    Really nice Flying Eagle!
Not much of a variety coin expert but I'm sure someone will figure it out. ;)

Are you sure that's not just strike doubling? I see lots of "flat and shelf-like" and no "notching" at all...?

    I checked Snow's book and I didn't find a match. It's probably Longacre doubling.

I don't see it listed by Snow.

Thanks for the input everyone. I guess it’s just a plain old nice looking Flying Eagle. It was part of a small estate I purchased and I didn’t give it much thought when going through the collection. Only upon closer consideration did I see how nice it was…great detail on the feathers still remains! I love this type.

Mark, nice FEC. The closest Snow variety I come up with would be S-12.

    I'd give the obv a VF35 and the rev a VF30.
    Net grade I'd say it's VF35.

High points look good, uneven toning on reverse but also good, nice coin thanks for sharing, I'll take 5.

Looks like Longacre doubling to me. If anyone has a mechanical explanation of what caused that on such diverse coins of his design, I'd love to learn more.

Something about the way the dies were tightened/lubricated? It's quite distinct from later mechanical doubling / die chatter.
