In 1707, a decisive Battle of Almansa during the War of the Spanish Succession saw Anglo-Portuguese forces, led by Lord Galway, suffer a major defeat against Franco-Spanish forces under the Duke of Berwick, resulting in a Bourbon victory and French control of most of Spain.
    Maybe this coin was there...

Tolstoy called war "Organized Social Insanity". Back in the day it took awhile to getting around to the actual murdering, destroying part of war. My 1814 was struck during the year when most of the war of 1812 took place. James

There is a much discredited book that claimed in 1814 coins with the date 1807 were struck using the old drape bust dies because they were the only one's ready to use when a bribe had to be paid to the pirate Lafitte in the spring of 1814. i don't care if it is dicredited. I like to show of my 1807.

In 1725, a significant event was the conclusion of Dummer's War (also known as Father Rale's War, Lovewell's War, etc.), a conflict between the New England colonies and the Wabanaki Confederacy (specifically the Mi'kmaq, Maliseet, Penobscot, and Abenaki). 20160822_192824~3.jpg

When has there ever not been a war going on somewhere? Here's a montage of some of my WWII world coins.
WWII_coins.jpg Here's one of my favorites (again). It sat in my album for decades before I realized that it's a contemporary counterfeit. Anybody else have one? It seems like tons of fakes were circulating during the Civil War years.
