I know you guys are probably used to see me post classic remember that after classic commemorative, but occasionally I do buy other types of US coins, and even in rarer occasions a world coin. Anyway, I've always wanted a half dime. Preferably one that wasn't a seated liberty as that's not exactly my favorite design (no offense). And today this beauty came up, a capped bust half dime. It's the way I like these old coins, with a little bit of crustiness to them. Anyway, feel free to show off your own half dimes.
That one is a beauty too! Much nicer then my bust h10. Nice pickup. here's my busty h10 and my favorite of my other h10s (lots of varities in H10s )
I like that one. It's well struck with early die state dies. Many of the Bust type have mushy details or chunks of metal in the field because die clashing. It took me a long time to find a really nice Mint State one for the type. Here's the one it replaced in my type set although I still have both of them.
I also have an 1858, but not as nice. Found in the pulper clean out pit at a recycled newspaper plant in the late 1970s. One for @lordmarcovan 's hat I suppose.
This 1858 half dime is a Proof. That was the first year the mint made an effort to sell Proof coins to the general public. Before then they had been made in a less organized way. I have the Proof dime also which had me dreaming about putting together a set, but that is long reach. The coins are rare and they are all expensive, even the Flying Eagle Cent.
I really like your bust HD. Nice original surfaces. I bought this one when I first started collecting, an MS63, now I don't care for it so much. (toned over scratch in the right obv field)
That one is very well struck, which is a plus. I think that toning is the result of having been dipped and then retoning. I've had coins go that way for me.
I've been noodling around with creating my own photo pair images, like these two below. This month represents the five-year anniversary of my first capped bust half dime, and the bromance is still strong!
