Being a PCGS ( Collector Universe ) guy for years until the leadership pulled the pin and exploded !! seriously affecting values, but how many of these notes do you actually see
anymore ? many have crossed over to PCGS ( GOLD Shield ) its a huge number and PMG
is right up there as well.

    Here's some examples:

    -Too many IMO!

First off, lovely $5.00 MPC but shame about the old PCGS holder. I don't think it imploded from conflicting leadership: look at the quality of the PCGS holder. I have a few & I regret winning them. They're open ended (allowing exposure to moisture) & very flimsy but worst of all: they're huge- where can one store their massive flimsy holders?

Here's one of the first I won. It's a tougher issue (P-18c from 1975) but once it arrived I was dismayed to see how big the holder was:

I have actually cropped off the edges of the holder which extend far beyond the label. I have to place it separately from my other notes or re-submit it to PMG so it will be vacuum sealed (& properly preserved). PMG would insert it in a smaller, more appropriate holder.

If I were to incur the expense of a re-submission, I would be able to keep this note with the rest of the set. This is one of my first TPG note wins & it was a lesson learned, but unfortunately, I'm cheap too! I soon noticed whenever a tough PCGS labelled World note was up for auction, I could often get a bargain (since bidding was soft). So I won a few more but I'm not happy with them & would prefer another TPG certification to properly seal/preserve & then allow me to keep the note with whatever set it belongs. The "Gold Seal" holders are much better (IMO) but they really haven't been embraced by the collecting community (like PMG).

yeah the old PCGS labeled notes were not very uniform especially in the early days
and have noticed a hard right turn by collectors almost turning there back on buying old PCGS holders, the rumor has it that top PCGS brass was spending to much time in China trying to adopt and basically neglecting the business ! leading to collectors universe cancelling there contract, so you can just about get these notes for a song !

Buy the note, not the holder…
