I was wondering if anyone collects coins to accent other collectables. I would love to hear about them. I know I've seen con jewelry and such, but I am thinking more of additions to another type of collection.

Recently I started collecting Spanish coins to go with the same year type monarch type documents I own.

About 3 years ago I bought a Spanish coin at auction that came with a Pristine 1784 King Carlos 3rd document. Since then I have bought about 150 Spanish Royal documents from 1743-1898. Some are also Colony or Inquisition documents.

Im now trying to place a good coin from that Monarch and year with the associated document. I have also tried to obtain CDV (cabinet) photos with some.

For example I made an offer on this 1810 1/2 Real
    ferd.jpg ferd1.jpg
to go with this: 1810 (24 Feb) King Ferdinand 7th Document dissolving the Junta Supreme Central Government and Establishing the Counsel of Regency. which was actually signed in Ferdinand stead by the Cadiz Cortez because he was prisoner in France at the time.
    1810f.jpg 1810g.jpg

    a 1823 1/2 Real
    ferd2.jpg ferd3.jpg

to go with: 1823 (25 Dec) King Ferdinand 7th, Abolishment of the Cadiz Constitution.

But unfortunately its very hard to obtain some of the dates and persons Like Joseph Napoleon Based on rarity and price, but none the less I think it will definitely enhance the history prospective of such collections.

another example would be I have this:
    I have:
1813 (3 May) Cuba Church Document, Abolishment of the Inquisition in Cuba.
1814 (29 Jan) Cuba Captain General Apodaca Decree, burning of books from Joseph Napoleon.
1849 (1 Sep) Queen Isabella 2nd, appointment of Jose Perez Corona as legal counsel of Spain.
    20160629_132556_HDR.jpg 20160629_132722_HDR.jpg 1.jpg 2.jpg
    1849-1.jpg
    1849-2.jpg 1849-4.jpg
But can only find coins like these unless I want to pay an excessive amount. so im starting to see a lot of different dilemmas with trying to continue to provide a coin for each year/type.

I know people run into problems collecting sets but I think this will be a lot harder.

Please share if you have any suggestions or similar situations.

Now if I could just find a decree about coin mintages and designs that would be the ticket...

Neat! Aha, so that explains your avatar picture.

Those bookworm patterns are neat looking, too.

    Rob,

these are a lot harder to find than any coins. you got to figure there were only about 20-40 of these made depending the year and how many colonies there were at that time. no email fax express mail. everything went by horse or boat. Paper being so fragile Im not sure of the survival rate for these but im guess pretty low. out of the 150 or so I got i've only seen 1 I own for sale else where anywhere online (2 copies of it from Argentina and Brazil). I think the designs of the seals and watermarks definitely put a lot of coin designs in the dark. but back then they really knew how to makes things and took pride in it. I post u some examples.

you will notice this seal is very close to his coin portrait. just facing the opposite direction. same with the coat of arms.

Are those "el Rey" and "La Reyna" actual royal signatures?

Phillip 5th had someone else sign and if he signed things he would use his French name. when he actually took the throne he couldn't speak Spanish.

King Carlos 3rd and 4th used wooden stamps from their original signature.

The Cadiz Cortez President signed for Ferdinand the 7th Until his return to the throne after that he signed.

Isabella 2nd Signed hers as well as her mother (Maria Christina) signed when she was the Queen Reagent for Ferdinand when he was on his deathbed and until Isabella became of age and for her Grandson Alfonso 12th.

Surely rob you collect more than just coins with all the metal detecting and such you do.

Those are incredible pieces of history that are very relevant to my collecting interests, as well (Mexico colonials 1772-1821). Thank you for sharing them!

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I always think its cool to see artifacts along with coins, especially in a museum type display. It adds a lot more context to the coins. I don't personally collect other things, but it is really cool what you are doing.

Wow! I thought I had my hands full just collecting Spanish coins by type.
Along the way, I've learned a lot about the history of Spain.

I've some Proclamation pieces, but no documents at all.

I collect coins/exonumia so no, I've never collected a coin specifically as a companion piece to something else. I have been tempted to collect companion pieces to my token collection - like an ashtray from the NCO club from Osan that would have been contemporary with the token used in the same club.

Surprisingly, I don't, really. My tiny budget is already constrained enough with the coin collecting. I do collect fossil shark teeth, but only the ones I've found personally. I did dabble in vintage postcards from my area for a while.

While coins are my only serious "collection" of note, I do have pretty varied interests.

I could see myself collecting early woodcut prints and maps and book leaves, but haven't.

Oh- I was also tempted to collect creepy old advertisements, but rather than buying the originals, those can be collected digitally for free.

I don't collect coins as accent pieces, but I'm always looking for neat accent pieces for my coin collection. :)
