Empire of the Romans Silver 1/8 Stavraton of Manuel II Palaeologus (minted in Constantinople sometime between 1403 and 1425):
A few of my newest. Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg, 2 Schilling Lübisch 1621, AU 50.....from the L.E. Bruun Collection. Minted for trade in the Baltic Sea area and popular in Russia for its resemblance to wire money. Schwarzenberg, Kreuzer, 1765 SNR, AU 58....from my recent NGC submission. One of only two issues struck valued at less than a thaler. Drossen, ND(1622), Pfennig, MS 61.....also from my recent submission. One of the cities that struck coinage only during the kipper period. Now modern day Ośno Lubuskie, Poland.
Not rare by any stretch, they are frequently offered at auction in Europe. Somewhat unusual to be original. My guess is they were sold as souvenirs in Liechtenstein in the 1960s hence many of them are now impaired. Silver with a bit of russet peripheral toning.
Sorta Kinda a world coin: 1945 D 20C TWENTY CENTAVOS - TERRITORIAL - PHILIPPINES UNDER U.S. SOVEREIGNTY PCGS MS66
Picked up a few pieces from a local auction yesterday: Most important to me this 1792 Threepence which fills an important gap in my threepence date run. This is the "wire" money only issued in 1792 with the Italic digit: Then this 1674 Farthing. Badly corroded but with plenty of detail: Then some non British pieces for my "tangent" collection. This German 3 Mark 1913 is a great design: This French 5 Franc 1827 fills my need for a Charles X crown size coin: This last gives me some concern. Italy, Naples 120 Grano 1852. The weight is correct and it seems to be silver, but some of the detail looks off and it has been scrubbed. Could it be a fake? Thoughts please:
I don’t see anything that concerns me from the picture. That said, I don’t believe I have ever owned one of these.
KOMPANIE VAN VERRE, 1594-1602 Vereenigde Amsterdamsche Compagnie. Daalder from 8 Reales 1601, Dordrecht. The Kompanie van Verre was a forerunner of the Dutch East India Company, which by some accounts was the largest corporation to ever exist. Super rare. Only eight coins of this type were sold in the 20th century, four of which were the same coins. Then this 3 guilder from the Dutch East India Company: And the last one a 3 guilder from the West India Company. Fewer than 16 of these are said to still exist. All raw, but I'll submit them for grading.
A nice 1683 medal about the relief of the second siege of Vienna. The Ottomans were beaten by the timely arrival of Jan Sobienski of Poland.
Kingdom of Scotland Gold Sword & Sceptre Piece of 120 Shillings of James VI (minted in Edinburgh in 1602):
