I used to get coins magazine for the monthly price guide and then a few years back it switched to numismatic news and only has the price guide 3 or 4 times a month. I've always used this as my main price guide for everything other then moderns and MS coins and its worked for me and I've used it both as a collector and a hobbyist dealer. Now I'm starting to wonder how it compares to the free online price guides like Numismedia and NGC. The prices are different in all 3 but the 2 listed ones seem to be more complete listing all the MS grades. So whats everyone's opinions?
I used to belong to the Terrazzo Guild. It became very expensive and the pricing of Terrazzo unrealistic..
I normally don't take much stock in price guides. I suppose they are a good starting point, but I prefer to look up realized prices from auctions. I know numismatic news publishes them, but I'm not sure at what frequency they are edited and updated. I can always tell when the price guide issue comes in though because it's twice as thick as the other issue!
Sorry @16ga for piling on. @charley started it! It’s all in good fun. I haven’t been a subscriber to Numismatic News for quite a few years. I use Numismedia FMV for standard stuff and CoinFacts for the harder to find/acquire items.
Thanks. I Agree on looking up auction results for bigger things. I use price guides (Yes i double checked the spelling.) for cheaper coins and when i don't have much time to research.
