I am looking for information and feedback from those that have made a TPG crossover with CAC designation. I have a PCGS coin with CAC green bean and I am considering moving it into my registry set on NGC. I wanted to find out what hassles - if any you went through, and how does CAC handle the crossover as well? Do I need to re-cert with them? Anyone done this? I would like to know before I go any deeper. Thanks in advance!
I would think that NGC would not accept the CAC and you would have to resubmit it to CAC based on whatever grade NGC gave it. Of course, if NGC gave the coin a higher grade, then this might be a moot question. Chris
If the grade stays the same and no designations change you can resticker it (used to be able to anyway but they may have changed that policy) by adding a note and sending the old label with it. If the grade changes, a variety is added, PL CAM ect change you have to resubmit. You can still add the note and the label but no assurance it restickers.
I believe it will need to be reassed if the cert number is different either due to resubmission in same company or crossover to another tpg. And fwiw there is mounting evidence that NGC slabs sticker at a much lower rate than PCGS. NGC switching up their registry policy is a real kick in the gut huh
Not really, I knew the game before going into it and always assumed that you could trust neither side in the long run when building a registry set. It's not in their best interest, it's only in ours - and a limited amount at that. I just found a coin that I had to have in my set, and it was in another holder - but I knew it going in. It will move, I'm just planning the move. I'm also not disclosing what type of set I'm building. I felt like a conspiracy against me completing my last set - where as soon as I was looking for a coin, it went skyrocketing in price. I'll pull the curtain on the set once it's complete this time.
For PCGS certainly, in the case of NGC I suspect they will find more crosses going the other way than coming towards them as a result.
Be very careful when making a crossover. Look at the auction data ahead of time to make sure that you are not substantially decreasing the value of the coin. It is not always fair, but the PCGS/NGC pricing disparity has been getting larger the last couple of years.
