I posted last week about my recent find. (Post title: Did I Find Anything Big?). Now that I've got a Red Book and the Bower's Expert Guide, I'm ready to start learning more. I'll start posting some pictures, and I'd appreciate any comments as to how you would grade these and why. The pictures are not the best quality because I was travelling with a small pocket digital cam and not anything good for macro work. Here's the first piece:
I want to say AU for first Morgan, MS for second morgan. G-4 details cleaned for the indian cent and I think AU on the Liberty nickel. You will note I did not put exact grades on some of them because I can't see enought details to really decide on a MS or AU grade. Anyway if I went with my first thoughts it would be AU55 for the first morgan, AU58 for the liberty Nickel, and MS63 for the last morgan. Not sure about the commemorative coin. All in all a nice bunch of coins.
I agree with Mark's grades and assesment. The Liberty nickel could very well be uncirculated or be AU-58.....it would have to be looked at in hand. As for the Stone Mountain commem, I would go with AU-50.
That is a beautiful Stone Mountain commem. :thumb: The first morgan looks AU50, the Liberty Nickel AU58-MS, and the second morgan looks like a probably MS63 (judging by the obverse alone since you didn't post a reverse pic).
They are great looking coins Jeff and I agree with Mark and Bob on the grades. Do you have a picture of the reverse of the Stone Mountain commem?
