When the gravy's flowing you can count on PCGS being right there with their kisser under the faucet...
I disagree baseball21. I think that they are judged by EVERY slab that bears their brand. Good, bad, or indifferent.
Whether they can devalue it any further is debatable. Remember, these are the people who originally came up with "First Strike" which, as any half-educated numismatist knows, is a bald-faced lie.
To some extent I agree, but everyone knows ASE grading is what it is. A gooned ASE grade certainly doesn't carry weight like the $10 mil SP dollar grading. In the end though the grading itself should be the judging factor. Every TPG plays the label game to generate extra income since they are a business, some people like it some don't but their grading is what most people care about. I don't think anyone has ever said, "I would have bought that beautiful properly graded coin but the label has a design I don't like"
and what damage has this done to their brand, Dave? they are still the #1 TPG in the US, (if not 1a to NGC)
I saw the ANACS ones being offered on HSN, although I didn't buy any. I think the ones from ANACS had the number of the edition printed on the label and came with a certificate too. It seems that the MS65 Silver Eagles are going to be 100 times more rare than the MS70s.
or even rarer... I have yet to see a single SAE graded in MS-65 on ANY population report. I seriously doubt that there ever will be, either.
There's actually a lot. Most are from the 80s ad 90s but PCGS has over a 1000 in 65 with 2013 being the last year to have them. One poor soul even got an MS 60 with a 2001 if you want an ASE lowball set to compliment the 2011 MS 62
thanks for making me aware. I still wonder how a SAE gets bagmarked, but I guess that's the TPG game.
Given the dates of most of them and when ASE grading became popular I would guess most spent a decade or so in and out of albums or stacker hoards. How someone got a 62 with a 2011 I have no clue why that was sent in.
$119.95. But you do get the red oak presentation box! I guess HSN believes there are enough people with "stupid" tattooed on their foreheads.
I wonder if there is a BU "lowball" market. Seems easy enough, buy ASE's for melt, put in bag, shake vigorously, sell, rinse and repeat.
