Wait a minute! I said 53 to 55 AU. I actually figured I'd be too low on the prediction. And now you see why I've said I've moved on from ANACS to PCGS. It's like they have this huge chip on their shoulder anymore, and don't give any bonus points for eye appeal whatsoever. It's a weird marketing strategy they've suddenly dug themselves into a hole lately.
Huh, your slab photo is like a different coin. You want accurate grading or pipe dreams? Send it to CAC and see what they say. It's not like the graders at ANACS haven't seen a few Morgans.
The one FACT revealed in this Thread (as has the majority of GTG Threads), is: It is not possible to accurately technical grade from images, and/or without the piece physically seen. And, most certainly MS/PF pieces. Then, there is the issue of the ability of the Graders to opine on the coin....their visual acuity/knowledge of the Series/basis of the opinion (after all, there are varying opinions of what basis to apply-technical/market) and experience. Perfection is not possible, for the simple reason that it is an opinion and that is all it really is. Sure, images can be compared to other images already graded. Was it technically graded? Truth in editing: added an "a" because I don't want to cause anybody to revel in spelling mistakes that change the thrust of the blahblah. It happens, so leave me alone.
There are quite a few photos provided by the OP that say AU. The photos were more than sufficient. Any grader worth their salt would grade this coin mid AU at best. Take another look at the photos.
Just to lighten everyone seems there is a member here that says don't trust your own eyes. @charley If these photos don't say AU then I don't know what does. They don't say this coin is questionable and in the 58-60+ range.
I thought it was AU53 to AU55 when I submitted. But, there are reasons it came back a 50 that are hard to argue against. EF45 could be argued for just as easily as an AU55. If you lay this beside other Morgans of various grades, I think the 50 number is not only fair, but it is easily replicate and verifiable, and that's what I look for in grading. I also have a reputation for being a bit of the mean French Olympic judge; I'm always looking for the wear or marks that bring a coin down a level rather than letting eye appeal, luster & toning alone sway me.
