Need help with this coin. Look at lower right of the Memorial. Im still new at this so any help is greatly appreciated.
It goes from the end of the memorial to the rim of the coin. I know I'v seen this before on here, but I can't recall what it was referred as. I have 1986 Lincoln that has almost identical.
Remember that the Die Crack is on the Die itself. When it is used to strike a blank planchet so many times the Die can break or crack due to stress in different areas. What you are seeing is a result of the metal from the planchet going into the crack of the Obverse Die. it's not an actual crack on the coin because it is raised not incused.
That year, they're cracked all over. We always keep the ones we find, too, we think they're kinda cool.
The corners of the memorial were high stress points in the die and were very frequently the site of die cracks.
