Just picked this up. Prf.66-DCAM. I think it is amazing that a country is able to celebrate 1000 years of existence.
I am very pleased with this one, which arrived today. 1773 Halfpenny, Regal issue. On UK grading this would get an AU, on US I guess some level of MS. In hand it has much more lustre in the crevices than my photo has picked up. The extraneous metal in the trident handle is an interesting anomaly.
Zand Gold 1/4 Mohur of Karim Khan Zand (minted in Shiraz in 1768): My nephew will get this either for his birthday or for Christmas.
My newest German States additions. Konstanz, ND, Kreuzer, MS65. A beautifully struck coin. A conditional rarity for sure! Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, 1619, 1/24 Thaler, MS63. An unusual type for the pair of stag antlers. Nuremberg, 1791, Pfennig, MS65. A nice tiny uniface coin. Solms-Hohensolms, 1612, 3 Kreuzer. A different branch of the Solms line I didn't have.
Yes, and since I have already bought coins from Henzen several times, I am sure it looks even better in person!
This medal seems to have originated with the New Brunswick Militia Volunteers in the 1860's but was inscribed for a visit by the Prince of Wales to Canada in 1926.
Something a little different. Even though the technology of the time was crude by today's comparison I find it unlikely that this was an accident. More likely a few mint employees with free time on their hands.
Here is my 1771 Halfpenny and a cropped pic of the trident area. Certainly looks to be extraneous metal has attached to the 1773 trident, but it seems to be the same metal and intrinsic to the rest, so presumably happened in the minting process?
It isn't metal that has attached itself to the coin, it is that a chunk of the die broke and fell from the die face. The result is a blob with unidentifiable details.
Some recent nice purchases along with a bunch of common pure nickel coins: 1293 Egypt 5 qirsh 1886 Great Britain Florin 1936 Canada 50 cent
Whoops...it's actually an 1864. Read my roman numerals wrong. Still a nice higher grade circulated example.
