Heard that Congress requested the Bureau of Printing and Engraving to design and print a $250 dollar bill of a living president. I already cannot use $100 around here due to fake $100s and stores not accepting them.
I thought I'd welcome any proposal to introduce higher-denomination coins and/or notes, acknowledging decades of inflation. Thought.
Isn't that illegal? Having any living person on our currency? Either way, what the heck am I going to do with a $250 bill? Buy a flat of jumbo eggs? I'd be stumped as to what to have it for... a "big purchase" or just to see how long it takes to break down and spend it at the local convenience store. It's not like I'd have a big stack of them that would make any difference. One $250 bill or two $100's and a fifty hardly make a difference in my wallet, or just any three bills for that matter. Seems incredibly wasteful to me, and I thought they were supposed to be... ah nevermind that part.
Sometimes I believe they introduce this nonsense to distract us from the serious issues that are happening right before our eyes…
no good for Vegas way to much money moving around, most local merchants won't even take a $50 have to use the debit card in most cases but a $250 bill would be kind of cool to collect.
Given the subject matter, how about a $3 bill? For the record, it's just the usual garbage bill introduced and sent to committee - hopefully to die an unlamented death. https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/1761 But it gets splash for the congress-critter what done it. Date All Actions 02/27/2025 Referred to the House Committee on Financial Services. 02/27/2025 Introduced in House We don't even actually know what stupid the text contains, because Text: H.R.1761 — 119th Congress (2025-2026) As of 02/28/2025 text has not been received for H.R.1761 - To amend the Federal Reserve Act to require the Secretary of the Treasury to print $250 Federal reserve notes featuring a portrait of Donald J. Trump, and for other purposes.
What would be really Cool is a $2 BILL .... then we won't need as many $1 bills. oh wait, you say we already have a $2 bill ?? nevermind ...
More of a convention than a rule... no living person has been on US currency as of yet, but there have been people on US coins while they were still alive (for example, Calvin Coolidge, Eunice Shreiver, and I think whoever was governor of Alabama in 1921). I suppose Congress could make an exception. It would just seem weird though... precisely why they generally don't put living people on currency (and to date, have not). Had to look it up to be sure it wasn't a joke, but apparently yes, it is an actual introduced piece of legislation. Not got to the point of being voted on yet. Kind of doubt it will get far. To be fair though, we used to have bills higher than $100. Arguably makes more sense now that it did then. $250 just seems a weird denomination though. If it does come into existence, will have to keep at least one.
Nothing diabolical going on here folks. Next year is the 250th Anniversary of the United States and allows this currency not only to be in a larger denomination to help families carry less cash, but also symbolically recognize the President of the United States during the Semiquincentennial anniversary. https://joewilson.house.gov/media/p...egislation-print-president-trump-new-250-bill
If it happens, it will be an awesome collection piece. Once upon a time, the $500, $1,000, $5,000, $10,000 and $100,000 bills were in circulation. After the last printing of those denominations in 1945, the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve discontinued them in 1969. Granted most of the large notes where not actually used in circulation, but used by the Federal Reserve for large money transfers between banks. All are high end collection pieces.
I hope that the Gov't concentrates on more important matters. I say this with respect to you and others on the other side of the party lines. I also gave you a like!
Seeing as the US is increasingly cashless with the majority of cash purchases being small amounts, this really makes no sense.
