This Fugio was passed down from my grandfather. It's in poor shape with lots of issues. I don't collect them but I would like to know a little more about it. Thanks for your help.
I'd be happy to help, but I need better pictures of the motto on the obverse and the central ring on the reverse.
1787 Pointed Rays, "States United." Further attribution will require a reference book on Fugio Cents.
Here is a couple more photos but without a camera, these are the best I can do. I'm legally blind and my eyesight not getting any better. Thank you all for your help.
It looks like an 8-X. The motto is pretty worn, as is the 4th cinquefoil, which are used for positive identification of this die. Fairly common pairing, probably a Bank of New York example. Kessler lists a conditional rarity of 2.
Thank you. I will label the Fugio with your information. I collect large cents so don't have any books on the Fugio. This coin was in my Great grandfathers box listed New York. It was full of large cents and flying eagles and this coin. He was a train engineer and traveled from Buffalo, New York to Cleveland, OH from 1905 to 1945.
It is not an 8-X, the N in MIND is directly over the U in BUSINESS which is not the case in obverse 8, on obverse 8 the left side of the U is in line with the N.
IMO, obverse is not 11. This is a tough challenge. I've spent too much time already! Need coin in hand. Rev. may be S,T, or X. Like Obv. 9 or 10 but slight differences (due to wear?). Possible unlisted Combo?
Thanks! That's one of the "slight differences." I had 17 at one time and dropped it. Bet that's it! Then 17-T or 17-S before rev. dies broke.
Again, thank you all for your help. I didn't think it would be this difficult. I promise not to post anything other than large cents from now on.
