@Garlicus -- it does look like the carp flag (koinobori ?sp) that can be seen on Boy's Day. Well, now it's Children's Day, but the carps were traditionally for the boys. Typically there's multiple carp though, the largest at the top for the father and a smaller carp flown below for each boy child, so I'm not entirely sure that's what the one on the medal is for. Supposedly the mother/girls are now included on the flags too according to Wiki, but that's not what I was told when we lived there. I do need to get to work on figuring this one out. There are a couple Japanese ladies I see at the local YMCA and I'm about to just take it with me and ask one of them .
Almost bid on a pair last week. Went for like $10 with shipping. Probably should have picked them up. C'est la vie.
Geez, what woman would marry a guy who can't afford to stamp a larger coin so her whole name fits on it? Come on LC, get with it! She should at least get a silver dollar. Bruce
