Could any of you make out any of these pieces based on these images? A friend texted these to me earlier looking for some information, so I am going to the best source that I know...you guys. I know that these images leave a little to be desired, but if you see anything of particular interest, I can get him to take some better shots of individual coins. Thanks in advance for your help.
Looks to be many nice coins in there instead of the usual junk seen in photos like these. Individual pics of the coins, front & back would yield you better replies.
I agree with Mat. At a glance it looks like a nice assortment of interesting coins, all of which will be easily identified with larger obverse and reverse pictures. Looking forward to seeing more/better pictures! The coin on the cigarette pack is a Caligula As ("as" is a denomination) with Vesta reverse.
Oh, my. Looks interesting. The Claudius AE on the left certainly caught my eye. I also love how you taunt me with a picture of a cigarette packet, some two hours after I smoked my last one and climbed "on the wagon" for yet another quit attempt. So just as the cravings started... there you go. LOL. I am sucking on a rather nasty, two-years-expired nicotine lozenge at the moment, not having yet gotten my patches and other crutches lined up for the upcoming battle...
Thanks guys; are there any that you would like to see in particular? I'm about to go grab them and get some more detailed images. Sorry man, just forwarded what he sent me. I'm going to try to quit after Mardi Gras again this year. New Years resolutions don't work for me with Mardi Gras so close. I made it nearly three months last year before failing miserably.
Good luck to you. Wish ME luck. I'm gonna need it. But I've now gotten to the "do or die" stage of the game, almost literally. Getting over bronchitis now. Get it every year. Have a permanent hack. Starting to get real health consequences from the filthy habit, which has enslaved me for 29 years. That's long enough, I think. OK, so much for the thread hijack. Back to the original topic. I was so distracted by that cigarette pack that I failed to notice there was a Caligula VESTA lying on top of it! Cool coin. Always in demand, too, especially for "Twelve Caesars" collectors.
Look like good coins as people have said from the 50,000 foot view. The silver coins are likely to be the better ones if you are taking more pictures. For smokers trying to quit: add the cigarette money you were spending to your coin budget for motivation!
If you guys are seriously wanting to quit smoking but are weak of will power. I quit almost 17 years ago after many failed attempts. The last & final time I did have serious motivation, it depended on what type of surgery I was going to have. Try this. I don't recall the name brand at the time but my insurance wouldn't cover it. My pharmacist told me the welebutrin Sr was the same drug only marketed under a different name for depression. My insurance covered it under that label. We all know big pharma will do whatever to line their pockets. But it worked for me. After all this time I still can't stand the taste or smell of them.
I went and took some shots of these coins for you guys. I have to say that it was a nicer collection condition wise that I would have guessed from the earlier images. Stay tuned, I'll clean up the images and post them shortly.
Well some of you on this forum produce some spectacular images, I am not one of those people. I hope these help a bit more. I'll try my editing skills on the rest of them.
Dose of quadrigas, Caligula has a little BD, reverse legend Vespasian. I'm curious, what are you going to do with these Kirk?
They all look genuine to my untrained eye. If so, then you have a collection worth several hundred, if not a few thousand, dollars.
No, a friend of mine found them in a house that he was working on restoring. A pawn shop offered him a hundred bucks for the lot, but he realized that they were probably worth quite a bit more. I will likely list them on eBay once I have enough information. These coins are well outside of my area if collecting. Those shots were taken quickly outside and looked in focus when I shot them, but I'm trying to get them to my house so that I can shoot them under some proper lighting. They look much nicer in hand and seem to be pretty well preserved.
From that image they look authentic and worth much more than $100 if they are. When you can, take good images and post each one in separate threads. You're most likely to get a better response. Rather than sell on ebay, why not contact our own John Anthony and consign them. He'll do good by them and will cost you no more than the ebay fee. Whatever you do with them, good luck.
