    Hello All,

Wanted to know if anyone knows what this is? The odd marking is on the reverse of the usd and when I try to find a bleed through, there is nothing on the obverse. Thank you

Is there a hole on the other side? because, there might be a hole pocked though it. if not it could be paint, or maybe an error.

looks like there was a piece of lint on the paper during printing

It's not a lint or has a hole or an ink bleed through...

We got both the same phone , Tmobile S7 ( figured from your phone's name ) haha :woot: , now getting to serious stuffs ... if you mentioned it's not a cause of a hole and I don't see any indication of ink smear or external paint etc ... I honestly think it's a small obstruction printing Error appearing on the bill ( though it's very small ) ... it created an interesting small error ... I would hold on to the bill since it's interesting and you might find a collector willing to pay a big buck for it , but it's not an error in the books or any common one so the price would be really subjective. I really think it was a obstruction error but it can be something else that I have never seen. Whatever it's ;it's a small error but can be rare , I would consult sb who is really expert in errors , if you cannot find one now , Hold on to the bill for now.

I'm curious about the title; 1997 one dollar bill......the BEP went from series 1995 to series 1999

Thank you for the response. What is a BED? You'll have to excuse me, I'm new to the terminologies still.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing......part of the US Treasury Department that is responsible for printing US Currency, and a lot of other printed material used by the government.

How did you come up with 1997 in your thread title ??

Honestly, I was too lazy to look at the obverse and I thought it was either 1995 or 1997, so I went with 1997. I'll get the right date up as soon as I get home. Apologies.

I agree with ziggy. If there was some foreign material on the plate or paper during printing (which is not there now) that could leave this type of mark.
I don't think there is a premium for this but it's only a dollar. I would save it.

It's actually real flat and looks more like ink than a piece of lint.

Agreed , the terminology for this foreign material or object blocking the printing process is " Obstruction Printing Error" just search it on google , it will come up. If this was on the seal or serial that was cool , but on the back of a bill, it can be hard to find a buyer
