Okay @Cascade and @SuperDave Which grade and VAM do you believe it to be? I'll give the answer later in the morning when I'm actually getting up (neighbors woke up the baby and therefore me).
I thought it was 22B because the cracks are much more pronounced than the pic on VAM world, I just cant see much of the die chip by the second star to be sure.
I hate to disappoint everyone, but you're all wrong! Haha, perhaps the 22A/B didn't come out when this was attributed. I was surprised it only graded MS62. If we went off of just the large photos on the VAMworld 22B, this is a dead ringer. Unfortunately, when I look at the close ups of the specific locations, they seem too early in the die state to land a full 22B. I guess that makes it a 22A?
Thank you. I'll admit I struggle with things that are over MS62. The fields have a great mirror-like reflection but her face is pretty dull. I know there's a lot of chatter on her, but I think it's the lack of luster on the face that brings it down. From the seller's pictures, I had assumed it was a white, MS64.
Very cool. Gotta love a Morgan in some hotel soap! I was at 62 if it didn't 58. I was unsure from the photos whether I was seeing a bit of rub or not on top of a slightly weak strike.
I was going back and forth. I was gonna ask for better pics of the break areas but didn't want to spoil it.
I have neglected to study the VAM's. I suppose I have left a lot of money on the table by being cherry-picked but there is just no way to learn EVERYTHING and my daily studies have taken me in other directions. If someone wants to cherry-pick me, I have over 7,000 dollars in stock and have never checked them for VAMs. The only one I can name is the 1923 Whisker cheek because I found one, thought the die break was debris on the coin and tried to pick it off with my fingernail. Heh.
I'll take some more today or tomorrow and post. Personally, I'm not certain there's enough for a 22B, but I'm happy to be proved wrong
This. These days, according to VAMworld, they're all either 22A or 22B, dependent upon the state of the cracks/breaks. The site further states they're all clashed from a VAM-80 reverse die, intimating that this is a shared obverse with that VAM. Certainly seems that way, even though the site doesn't come out and say so. I have to wonder, though, whether the very_first_strike of that die pair was a clash.
