Hi all, I always wanted one of these! It's a counterstamped 1967 Cent. It has an image of Kennedy facing Lincoln. Also looks like a Misaligned Die Strike. The package states that it came from the Littleton Coin Co. $3.00 at my local flea market. Enjoy
The only other counterstamp coin I have is this Cent I found Metal Detecting. It has a Playboy Bunny!
These are fun. I saved a few over the years. The price was right and if it had Lincoln on it, it went in my collection.
When Maynard Sundman owned Littleton he was big into these and the gold plated Lincolns as a cheap way of enticing new customers to order approval coin packages. Not so much so with his son David. He tends to make special offers with discounted B.U. coin sets like the State Quarters at face value and free gifts of the 2009 Lincoln Cents.
I like these stamped cents , I remember them from ages ago. I got a Boy Scout symbal, Alaska, book, USA& bell, and the Kennedy.
I find counterstamped cents a lot in roll searching. Kennedy and Masonic are the most popular, the states were done about the time of the bicentennial etc - I probably have 40 of the states now. Favourite one though is on a nickel, "No more war" on a 2003 nickel. Also found the "Ford" logo stamped on a Buffalo nickel. One common thing with most aside from the Masonic is that they will usually have a bit of glue and paper on the reverse from where they were glued to paper, a vending machine ring like kids used to wear etc.
Glad to hear you finally got one. The web link below has numerous novelty coins for sale. Check it out. Several web sites allow you to design your own but usually you must in bulk. http://www.villagecoin.com/c/NOVC.html
thats cool, I enjoy finding them for a cent, and would not buy any of them, but cool site....making me think
