Does anybody know about U.S dollar Error bills ? I have got this very rare one dollar bill with the Fold Over error and the serial and most of the treasury seal on the back along with cutting error and extra paper, that seems totally genuine. My Only concern is about the ink smear of the District Seal , I'm wondering if it's indeed a genuine ink smear. I checked the paper with the counterfit detector pen and the bill's paper is totally genuine , but the bill when hold is a bit stiff and rigid and feels a bit different comparing other one dollar bills. When hold in the light some small yellow small spots are apparent on the bill but not much with the normal light ... I'm a bit concerned if the ink smear is genuine... the serial seems totally genuine , please advise the pics . I also held a brand new one dollar bill in one side and this bill on the left and you can see this error note a bit stands stiff , but all watermarks , security features and paper seems genuine. Please let me know your opinion. If the ink smear is valid this bill along with all its error is really unique.

    Why? Don't ever do that

Don't know about the smear but it could of occurred during the foldover.. maybe.

I'm not a Paper Error expert but I do know enough to see your $1.00 bill and say yes it is genuine and desirable!.. And that is my opinion

From what I know, everything about your bill screams genuine error, including the District Ink Smear. Never, I mean NEVER, use a counterfeit detector pen. The caused damage to the bill after it has been printed. All the pen really does is prove Federal Paper was used to make the bill.

Your bill is stiff, as are all newly minted and uncirculated notes. The folding error caused the other errors. You have a great bill that would be highly prized by a collector of these items but have lowered it's value considerably by marking the bill with the a counterfeit detector pen. Your bill is now considered an error with PPD or Post Printing Damage.

When in doubt, do nothing but ask questions when it comes to money. And don't try to erase the pen mark, you'll just make the damage more apparent.

Looks like a genuine fold over error to me.

Note has fp # E3, which would make it the upper right hand note of the sheet and the corner of the sheet folded over before the third print was applied.

I am not sure if the District seal smear happened at the BEP or after it entered circulation.

Actually, the counterfeit pens contain iodine that changes color when it comes in contact with cellulose. The Bureau of Printing and Engraving uses paper made from cotton and fibers, not cellulose which is found in wood pulp.

Yes, just leave the bill alone from this point on.

The bill is stiff because is has not been circulated. The ink smear is a normal error.

Of course I'm not gonna take this beauty even out of sleeve anymore. Any estimation how much this bill with all these errors: fold over , extra paper on top , cutting error on edge bottom corner and this ink smear migh be worth ? Since it's a combination I'm affraid a lot

Why are you afraid? You should just be excited to have such a specimen!
Because of its rarity.. The value is in the hundreds.

I was thinking thousands , honestly I searched the internet and most of the only Fold over error bills with none of the other cheerleaders that my bill has, are about 1 grand minimum and up .. I just did a simple search ... and I think each extra error on an already rare error bill will just adds big to the value ... though the condition of a bill is also a big factor , I grade this bill VF Choice , I wish it was about uncirculated, but I guess it's not that high grade ... sb please confirm I'm right :woot::happy:

According to the book Standard Catalog of US Paper Money 33rd Edition, it states the following -

mine has the small cut at the bottom , plus the extra paper , this Fold over ( I thought fold overs are more valuable ) though my bill has a unique one in which a part of the seal is on the front which is interesting , and the smear ... so if we total them up will it go above 2 K ? :D

    Ashly,

This is a nice error and as others have mentioned I would leave it as is. Do not worry that you did some things to the note that you shouldn't have, we all make mistakes from time to time when it comes to our collections. I would get it graded by a TPG. A local dealer can help with that. This way it will be In a protective sleeve and authenticated. Very nice find!!!
