Die Deterioration Doubling? 1882-S Morgan

I saw this coin on eBay and it's got some serious doubling going on with the date and stars, most notably below the date. Perhaps it's a combination of MD and DDD (?). Obviously NGC graded it and determined that it's not a doubling error, but that split serif on the "2" looks nice and relatively extreme to some other die deteriorations. Though, I've also seen this sort of doubling on the stars of other 1882-S Morgans I've browsed, so it may not be uncommon for the year and Mint. In any case, it would be good to know for future reference.

    Thanks in advance!

The bottom of the second 8 is doubled, The grey color under the date is where the toning is different. That characteristic is a sure sign of natural toning. It goes by several names but I'm not going to say what they are yet as it will start a bunch of opinions. I'll wait to see what everyone else calls it. ;)

It is called "pull-away toning" under the date.

Same here. That seems to be what most have called it over the past 30 years. It's a cool look.
