Hey Everybody, Happy New Year's Eve Eve! Our local coin shop is having their annual Boxing Week Sale, so my bro and I checked it out. I came away with a 1941 Nfld 5 cent coin (exciting, I know ). The bro came away with this: There wasn't really a label on it, so I did some research and found this: Greece Ionia Erythrai AR Hemidrachm Diogenes SNG 574 BMC 18, 201,84 S4997 Unfortunately, my computer doesn't like wildwinds, so I went to Vcoins for the info. Thanks dues and dudettes! Erin
Wow, congrats on the sweet 1941 Nfld 5 cent coin (those babies will eventually be a great coin investment) ... I have all of the Newfie 20 cent and 25 cent pieces (they're very cool and that's a great coin investment) Oh, and your bro's coin is also pretty neat ... Ummm, I have a similar coin-style, but probably a slightly different time-zone? Here is my Alex-III lifetime example ... Again, Erin => congrats on all of the OP-scores ... and I hope you and your bro have a Happy Coin New Year!!
Maybe not, it looked like a dark toned silver at first. Scrap my findings, I'll continue to search. I like Nfld coins as well as ancients. My dad's a Newfie and so it comes naturally to collect them. Sweet Alex coin, Steve! Erin
Lol, I fail at research. I'm getting closer, though: IONIA, Erythrai. Circa 280-270 BC. Æ Trichalkon. Erin
I'm running on no coffee today. :/ But, yes, Doug is right. Next time, I'll leave the research t the bro. I pretty much took it from him and told him I would take care of the research. The cardboard flip said the coin was 3.6g. I need to invest in a scale too. Me = Erin
Looks like AP in the pic. Maybe??? The bust style is different Yeah I meant Doug has it right. It's not AR
Thanks Deacon Ray! My grandparents were also married in 1941. I don't even know what I was thinking when I thought it was silver. Bro and I dueled on it actually. Take this as a lesson: this is your brain on binge-watched Spongebob. (We now have Netflix and I've been taking advantage of it) Erin
You can get a decent digital scale from Amazon for about $20 or less. I wanted one that read into the hundredths/two decimal places and I spent somewhere around $20. This was about five years ago but I don't imagine much has changed as far as pricing.
Great coin Erin, I love those types and Alexander III similar types, come to think of it I have one nowhere near as good as Steves or your brothers, I might photograph it and show.
I have often thought about starting a collection of the 2 dollar Newfoundland gold coins. Maybe I will start that this year.
Thanks everybody! I'd love to see your coin, Ancient Aussie! I'm super jealous of your Nfld coin collection, Steve. I want to get the full coin sets for 1918, 1919 and 1941. I'd also love to have a gold $2, but that's not likely to happen anytime soon. Erin
Click on 'em and it's like you're sitting in my living room ... sure, that's a bit creepy, but kinda neat ...
