Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I assumed it was an ancient coin. My Numista/google sleuthing skills have gotten me nowhere. Does anyone know what this is? I believe it was between 18-20 mm before it was damaged. Weight is 2.13 grams. I picked this up in a junk world coin bin in Germany. The pictures are the same coin just duplicated in hopes of a better shot.

It looks like some Moroccan falus coins, though that doesn't mean it is. The ones I've seen were from the late 1200s/early 1300s in the Islamic calendar (so like 1800s AD). Those have the six-pointed star only on one side, though.

Were I to guess- and from here on I'm strictly entering guesswork territory- I would imagine your coin is a bit older than that, but not ancient. I get a 1600s/1700s (AD) vibe. But take that with the proverbial grain of salt.

Still, I think Morocco is as good a place as any to start looking. At least until someone with firmer info comes along.

Fair enough. There are lots of stars on Moroccan coins. That's a pod place to start. I'll dig through numista to see if I can find anything.

I looked all the way back to my 17th century Krause catalog for Morocco and did not see that design. the star in the middle of the star is throwing me off. I guessing earlier than 17th century ???

I was thinking they were trees or plants, maybe? Thank you for digging through your catalogs.

I noticed the dot pattern with the center of the falus coins. Is there even a remote chance it could just be crazy corrosion? They seem like they were stamped into the coin but I just thought that it might explain the anomaly?

Doesn´t look moroccan to me. Totally different coins, yours was struck while moroccan are all cast.

    I have no clue though.:(

Google - Islamic Seal of Solomon coin. You will see similar stuff.
    Could be. Maybe :bag:

That definitely does not look like a Moroccan falus to me. I own a number of them. Here is one to compare - completely different look.

Could be I started you down the wrong path with Morocco, then. Hmm. Sorry.

But I think you can see why I would've thought that.

Now I've become intrigued by the mystery and will have to try some searching myself, when I'm on a real computer.

I could swear I've seen these six-pointed stars like this somewhere, with not a dot inside them but a little sprig or whatever that is...

Morocco was a reasonable guess; I would recommend the same to someone who asks. I'm now more curious than ever what it could be. I've googled about every combination I could find.

I'm wondering if it is some sort of pfennig token from late 18th, early 19th century Germany? Judenpfennigs were created by commercial interests at the time to alleviate a shortage of small change.

The six pointed star definitely pointed in the direction of Morocco, @lordmarcovan, you weren't wrong on that. There are very few countries that used that symbol, and Morocco is the most prominent. I have an extensive collection of Moroccan coinage, and nearly all of them incorporate the star in some way or another.

This particular coin seems quite crude. I'm speculating here, but I wonder if it isn't some sort of token or something - more modern than it looks, but environmentally damaged?

Your guess is as good as mine. I've tried looking through token databases, not much there either...
