I've only ever bought one thing from Live Auctioneers (Susan Backlinie autographed Jaws poster) but came across this beauty coming up for auction soon and had to ask. They do have a pretty expansive variety of coins, but between the buyers premiums, shipping, and online payments fee, you WILL be lucky to pay less than 30% extra I couldn't imagine anyone paying that much extra for something unless it's something they plan on keeping for life or it's not an "easily found everywhere" piece. But everyone's different so I have to ask: Would you? https://www.liveauctioneers.com/ite...an-silver-dollar-ngc-ms-64-very-pretty-toning
Whatever price you bid add in all additional costs and that is what your final price for that coin will be.
Yeah, I was more or less wondering if anyone here would go through auctions like this to obtain pieces they'd want knowing the additional fees when there might be other sources where they don't have said fees.
I have done similar for scarce 5-6 figure certified "mint-state" Gold coins that may only be offered in lesser quality, decades apart. I haven't regretted my actions, especially with the current price offerings for Generic certified Gold or Silver coins. I can understand your interest in that unique coin! JMHO
I know I’m trying to pick up some different coins and spread some variety into my collection but the Morgan’s are my favorite Silver coin lol! the temptations are real but there’s ALWAYS new and cool stuff being brought in
I've won quite a bit of online auctions on eBay (how i won my first CC Morgan and a few other things) but will only bid in live auctions at this point for very specific things that align with my interests. (I have an entire "Jaws" shrine that I added this to because I love the movie/sharks so much), and though Roy/Robert/Richard were the "Big Three", Susan definitely kicked off the movie with a bang playing Chrissie, even as short as that scene was. I don't know if I'll buy any coins or paper currency from a live auction right now, but some day I might.
I bid at Heritage auctions. They have a flat 20% fee added. I have to multiply that number (bid + 20%) x 14% to account for all the added shipping fees, taxes, etc. to arrive at my personal bid for a coin. Welcome to online auctions. Having said that you have to go where the coins are available. Check out Great Collections. Cheaper everything but coins. james
I met her with my friend at the Chiller Convention in Parsippany, NJ early last year. The story of how she got the part and what she had to do in the movie -- all for 1 minute of shark attack -- was very interesting. She was on the beach scene, right ? She was a stuntwoman and PT actress for the 1970's.
You lucky duck, she unfortunately passed later on in May 2024 too. But yep, she played Chrissie Watkins (she got attacked at the buoy). I'm 32, but holy crap she was HOT in the 70s! I read all about all the crazy stunts she did with real animals/her being a stuntwoman.
They're just a platform, so make sure you click through to the actual seller and check ALL the fees and conditions - lotsa fun stuff in there, including hidden reserves
Ohhhh yeah, I learned that REAL fast. A lot of the live auctions on Live Auctioneers have buyer premiums that start at 18% minimum from what I've seen (not including shipping fees/convenience fees/this fee/that fee/fee fie fo fum fee). I also noticed that even eBay has their own live auctions now too, kinda want to look into them too
Live Auctioneers charges high fees to the auction houses so they have to pass it on. Hibid, Live Auctioneers, and a couple other platforms you're dealing directly with the auction house and the listing service doesn't really get involved. Every auction will have different terms and conditions. Shipping can be brutal from some auction houses lookout for that!
My last live auction was at the FUN show a few years ago. Probably Heritage. It was fun to just rest and watch all the bidding. They were taking bids, online, over the phone and from the room.
I know i'm super late, but I've seen, ESPECIALLY on LiveAuctioneers. I've even seen 29%+ Buyers Premiums. But thankfully, I only paid 25 bucks to have my autographed Jaws poster shipped, which for something that's framed and of it's size: really isn't that bad.
I actually just signed up for Heritage not too long ago, I have to take a short break from any numismatic purchases for a little bit after buying 20+ coins including my 1st CC Morgan (granted it had dings, but still wanted my 1st) but I'll never stop looking
Haven't done Live auctioneer, But I've done Heritage, Bid + 20% + 14% for shipping/handing and if you live in a state than has sales tax on coins you have to add that on as well. It can be even worse if you live in Europe and are bidding in auctions there (Bid + 22 to 25% buyers fee + shipping and handling + 22% Value Added Tax. So basically Bid + 55 to 60%) Bidd in Europe from the US though I have an advantage as I don't have to pay the VAT.
